There are two cross-overs that I use - State Center and Lexington Market. Unfortunately, you can't step off Light Rail and step immediately onto the Metro, so each stop involves a walk.

From the Cultural Center Light Rail stop, cross over North Howard Street and walk down the diagonal West Preston St two short blocks to the State Center Metro station at the intersection of N Howard and N Eutaw.

From the Lexington Market Light Rail stop, head south on N Howard, until you hit W Lexington St and turn right. The Metro stop is just outside the Lexington Market main entrance.

The Lexington Market stations are a shorter walk but when I tire of the human comedy and drama there I prefer to use the Cultural/State Center stations.
