Default Pigtown restaurant????

A friend of mine, who lives in Los Angeles these days but who covered South Baltimore and Pigtown for The Sun, will be visiting later this month. We need to have lunch on a Sunday in a place that evokes everything that he is missing.
Suggestions?

My favorite "Old Pigtown" place is called Carl's Little House -- it's at the corner of Ostend & Hamburg Streets. The absolute best cheesesteak sub in all of Baltimore, and great bacon cheeseburgers, too.

Are they open Sundays? (I could always call and make a reservation but...)
Seriously, that sounds good because it would also enable us to do a walking tour. Are you open on Sundays?

No -- not my place. Carl's. And come to think of it...I don't think Carl's is open on Sunday. It's also a bar, with a back room where people eat. Hm. Sunday is a tricky day here -- a lot of places are closed on Sunday. I'm open, but I'm not really an "old Pigtown" experience. Jay Ray's on S. Carey street might be open -- they have an excellent shrimp salad, but again -- it's a bar that serves food.

Default It's the ambience

These are marvelous suggestions and I'll check them out. The purpose of our lunch is to talk about old times and new, so white table clothes don't matter.
Since Joe is coming from Washington and spent a lot of time reporting from Pigtown, this would be an ideal location.

You'd think one could get a great ham sandwich somewhere!
