Hi!
My friend and I are moving to Baltimore in September. We will be transferring jobs into APG, Edgewood (yes, I know this area is not good!) but would like to live in the City as it would be more exciting. We have been doing a lot of internet research but haven't gone house hunting (renting) yet. We'd like some advice on where the best place would probably be for us considering our interests: Close to bars/restaurants, 20-30 something age crowd, close to shopping, parks and SAFE most importantly. Are there many streets that parking is just impossible to find? The last thing I want is to come home from work and be driving around looking for spots. I also understand it can go from nice on one block to pretty bad on another which makes me nervous when looking for places. We understand we will have a 35 + minute commute but whichever town..Fell's Point, Canton..etc.. would be closest? Any advice is much appreciated.. we are just looking to have a fun time in a new city and meet a bunch of new, interesting people ![]() Thanks! |

I concur with baltimore's best. Canton probably has what you're looking for, and it's close to I-95, and you wouldn't have to go through the Fort McHenry tunnel. You could always find a house with off-street parking. I hear in Canton some streets aren't bad at all for parking, while other streets are awful.

FYI - you're going to be looking at a good 45 min one-way commute everyday. I made that for 3 years from 2004-2007 from downtown Baltimore to Exit 74 - RT 152 (Edgewood APG) and it was cake since it was reverse rush hour. However, with the BRAC, the commute is going to get much worst with all the jobs and accompanying traffic coming into the region. Not to mention minimum $4/gallon fuel, which may even be $5/gallon when you finally move down here.

Thanks for all your responses
We will def. look into Canton. I currently have about a 40 min commute which I don't mind as long as I like where I'm living. We are the first very small group to be coming down for BRAC so it won't be as flooded as it will in a year or so. I'm sure we will also carpool to save on the gas as much as possible. But, it is something I didn't think about that is very true. |

Would you consider Bel Air, MD in leiu of the city? Its a very young, co-ed, outsoorsy, sports inclined community with a lot of neat pubs in town (e.g. Sean Boylans, Looneys). Look at it, it may float your boat.

Doesn't the MARC Penn Line go up to Edgewood? If so, that would be a breeze to commute from the city.
