Hello,
I'm beeing transferred by my company in Baltimore in september and I am afraid about what I've heard from this city (crime). So I am wondering if I should be afraid oof walking in the streets or coming home late for example. I've heard that the county is nice but I am a city girl so I would much rather live in the center of the city if it's not too dangerous. I've been checking apartments in managed buildings most of them located on Calvert Street, what do you think of this location? Thank You ![]() |

First, I would suggest posting this question in the Baltimore forum. Second, I recommend visiting the city soon to get a feel for it. It is a big city and one has to be careful and aware of his/her surroundings, but plenty of people live in town and love it. I know several people who live or have lived in apartment buildings on Calvert. Good luck in your search.

Baltimore has many safe neighborhoods to choose from. Don't believe all the hype.

One issue with Baltimore when compared to other cities is that the crime is spread fairly evenly throughout the city. You can be in an OK area, and suddenly run into the 'hood in the next block. You can still live downtown, but you need to be much more careful than if you were living someplace like the Upper West Side of Manhattan. |

Thank you for your answers.
I think I will take the time to visit the city and then decide which neighbourhood I like the most. |

That's a good idea. Visit at different times of day, if you can...and visit on a weekend day and a weekday. That will give you a good idea as to things like noise, people loitering...things that don't necessarily mean "bad neighborhood" but can still affect your quality of life.
