Here in Towson, cant really find out what is close and safe
I know, I have searched, the opinions seem to vary wildly. I am relocating from NJ, am a single woman, very paranoid by crime. However, while I have a car now, not sure it will last many more months, so I need advice on a place that is convenient to Towson and John Hopkins, but is really safe and livable for the next 10 years. I am street savvy, but tired of living that life, want to relax, and oh I am a veteran with the dreaded Section 8 voucher, but I earned it, so pls dont slam me

Thanks Krakenten, it seems so, only been here two days, but astonished by the politeness of people and the quiet!!! Can you tell me anything about the transit system, I'm not lazy, just have intermittent online access, when my host is at work and can{t seem to find info, although I see lots of bus stops. Thanks!!!

Towson is not richly served by mass transit-but there is the bus(which in Baltimore tends to be a cruel joke) and the Light Rail out of Lutherville, which is much, much better.
The MTA has a web site, and schedules are available at libraries, including light rail and subway schedules.
Towson in a very nice place, I wish I could live there!
Google Maryland Mass Transit Administration.
If you go to Towsontown, look out for the ghost of my late wife, who is still haunting the place if she has any say in the matter-I'm sure her spirit roams through Nordstrom's rack in the small hours!

It might help to know if you are traveling to the University, or to the Hospital.
Both are accesable by bus-Towson is close to the University, and the Subway will take you right to the hospital.
Take the rail to State Center/Cultural Center, transfer to the Subway and Bob's yer uncle.
For JHU the #3 runs down Charles Street-a reliable run, too, pops you right to the campus.
Please feel free to ask me any questions-I'll do most anything for a fellow vet.
Good luck!

You are a gem!!! I am sorry you lost your wife, but deeply admire your admiration for her.
Thank you for taking the time to give me that info. I am subletting in Towson, and can only get online when my host is out of the house, so it isnt just laziness.
I will need to go to the hospital for treatment and the 95 get out and push van I drove down here, I have no guarantee will last me past the summer. Great to know, thanks so much!!!!!

Definetely, do the Lutherville to State Center, to Hopkins route!
And get a monthly pass-it doesn't save much money, but it's convenient.
The subway actually drops you inside the hospital complex, where there is security on duty.
Depends on the time, but you can get to some interesting places via the rail system.
Lexington Market, the Walters Art Gallery, Camden Yards, the Inner Harbor, all short walks from the rail lines, as is the Peale Museum and the Art Museum(more of a hike, but doable).
Many of the suburban malls are close to the Light Rail line, going North.
And Towsontown is a very good place to shop.
Thank you for your regard for my wife, I loved her very much, and I miss her dreadfully.

Subletting is renting from a person who rents the property.
It's a common arrangement when people move and have time on the lease, or are going to be gone for a period of time.

Towson is great
Towson has a lot going on right now and is served by mass transit. Not like you would find in NYC or Portland, but it does have buses. Check out The Forge Flyer for local community news and events.
