Hi All
Will be flying in from Denver this week to find a rental. Another forum memeber has helped tremedously with the patterson Park neighborhoods so i thought I'd ask you all for help with Charles Village. I have heard from multiple forum members that Charles Village is a good neighborhood as far as safety, proximity to UB (Mass transit). I have also been told by multiple peope to try and stay North of 25th. I found what looks to be a nice rental on barclay and basically 26th. is anyone familiar with that particular area. Any info would be helpful. ie. safety, shopping nearby, etc. Thanks everyone for your help. Rest assured, I will be an avid poster on this forum once I learn the city and my neighborhood. All your help has been indispensable. Enjoy your Monday! |

Barclay is decent north of 30th St. near where the Waverly farmer's market is held each Saturday, but it gets a bit dicier toward 25th St. There are nice parts of Charles Village below 25th St., but the neighborhood generally declines the farther south and east you go from the St. Paul/Charles St. corridor. There's a Safeway and some shops and restaurants on or near 25th St. The area closer to JHU is livelier.

rudy-d could not have said it better or more diplomatically. In fact, I started answering the OP but words failed me. Look and see whether it's for you. A few years ago a friend of mine sold a house on 25th Street, between Calvert and Barclay, to a graduate student. And for good money, too. I couldn't believe it, but the buyer thought the neighborhood was coming around.

I really think you're right. Once i am able to walk around and feel out the neighborhood I be able to get a sense of where i think I'd enjoy the most. Now i kind of have a good starting point to begin my search in that area.
