David -- let me know if you want me to give you info on drive-bys, meaning I've seen some places that have a for rent sign out front with a phone number.
Glad you like B-more. It's my home town and while it has its negatives, I like it here :-). If you see the lights at the Orioles stadium tonight, that's where I'll be! |

Those places mentioned (Towson, Timonium, Cockeysville, Hunt Valley ) wouldn't have a place to rent for $1000.00 per month, unless it was a studio apartment. For a grand you may get a place in Glen Burnie, not even Historic Catonsville would go for a Grand. I think for a grand, your looking closer to the city, like Lansdowne, Linthicum area. Not Towson, Timonium and those areas. If you have kids, keep far away from the city, especially if you're from a place like Florida, we'd "see you coming" so to speak LOL!

South Baltimore is a great place to live if you have no children. My husband and I swear when the kids are grown, we're moving there. It's not so bad actually if u can get the children into private schools. I think you'd have luck finding a spot for around a thousand or so bucks in South Baltimore. I'm helping my niece find an apt. now, so I've been glancing thru the paper lately. White Marsh, Perry Hall, Timonium, these are all good places, but I don't think you'd get in for a grand, I don't even think you could get into Parkville for that amount, I know you cant actually. Have you any issues with living right in the city? Because there are really nice parts of the city, like s.b-more, n.w. b-more isn't bad if you don't mind the city.

davidski, I agree with cmacf1, paradise is a nice area, but close to the city. When u get close to the beltway ( I 695 ) you'll notice that some of the houses (Like the Welsh property) is gated and has cameras securing the property. If you go passed the beltway.....that can be pretty tricky. I've lived here most of my life, was born in Long Beach California and moved here when I was two y.o. I was raised close to Paradise, it's cool there, not too loud, not too quiet either.

Davidski, I wanted to remind you that Baltimore and Detroit have been "neck and neck" for the most dangerous city in the Nation for about 5 yrs now, you may want to stay away from the city if you don't know how to 'read' people because .......well you know why.

I had friends who lived at Bonnie Ridge. It seemed safe and clean, but not my cup of tea. It's relatively close to Mt. Washington, but you'd have to drive to get to anything outside of your apartment complex.
The Carlyle is an interesting choice. I don't know what the apartments are like, but it's in a great location next to JHU and in the middle of the nice, but very different neighborhoods of Roland Park, Hampden, and Charles Village. I think part of it was a hotel until recently. |

If your sister chooses the right neighborhood, she will be fine in Baltimore. |
