Now i feel like i should take a job and keep my place in philly. I can't deal with burglaries or anything like that.
If you find a place that is relatively safe, a place where it's safe to walk without being shot at or mugged, can you please let me know?
someone suggested white marsh but i have to figure out how far it is from the hospital. If i had to work night shift like i do here, i wouldn't mind but hopkins requires i work 50% dayshift my first year. I've worked night shift at my hospital here so i don't wake up early. I don't know how i can get there on time if i live so far away.

Butcher's Hill
Here is a link describing the boundaries:
Live in Baltimore - Butchers Hill
Also, David Ski, great map! How is crime defined? All crimes or violent crimes?

OK--There are literally thousands of folks that work at Hopkins. There is a metro stop right by it. I am in Patterson Park and many times (on nice days), I walk to that metro stop for my commute rather than catching the bus. Check any of the areas south of Fayette Street and you would still have an easy commute to work with a decent neighborhood. At night, catch a cab (they are always sitting out there), and take it home. If you opt for Patterson Park/Butchers Hill, it would run you about 4 bucks.

400 Collington is 4 blocks north of Baltimore Street. Like I mentioned earlier, you want to stay south of Fayette. Don't opt for anything that is 300 north or more.

I helped David with the map and I am not sure how accurate I am. I just thought I would put the areas in where I wouldn't want to walk but as I explained to him, there are errors within it although it is a general picture.

it is about a block north of fayette, so not in Butcher's Hill. I think that area is probably not the best. Don't give up though. Baltimore is a rough city, but I don't know anyone who's ever been shot at. Homicides are usually not random. They are mostly related to gang wars and drug issues. I think if you choose a reasonably less high crime area (look at DavidSki's map), and use street smarts ( not going for a jog at 10 pm by yourself), you should be okay. Will there always be tragic incidents where an innocent bystander is a victim of violent crime---Yes. But in general, crime is local.

Thanks.
So, I've heard east baltimore is bad. Is west baltimore any good? I've been searching for apartments on craigslist since creation and when i come down to baltimore to look at them i either don't like them or when i find one in a quiet neighborhood, i'm told i arrived too late. I may need to drop my offer at Hopkins and Take mercy's offer instead so i can live downtown. Although i really want hopkins so please, i appreciate your suggestions so far, just help me find a good place to live. A place you'll feel safe enough to let your younger sister live there cuz i look like a 16 year old. There're people who think i'm 14 but i'm actually a little over 20. i just look like a teenager which is annoying most of the time when i'm travelling - The greyhound driver in st. louis thought i needed my parents to get on the bus.

Not sure of your budget, but you may want to check out Avalon Centerpoint building on Fayette Street. It has parking, concierge desk. One of the nurses at Hopkins lives there and has a 10 minute drive to work. There are mostly Univ. of Maryland folks there, but plenty of Hopkins employees as well. Mostly young people. You could rent in the area (there are other apts in the area too) for a year and get a better sense of the city.

Again, for east Baltimore, anything south of Fayette Street is fine. Look into apartments or homes that have the 21224 zip. Neighborhoods to look for: Butchers Hill, Fells Point, Canton, Patterson Park, Brewers Hill, Greektown, Washington Hill. They are all fairly close to Hopkins where you will be working.
If you want west Baltimore, take the job at Mercy. It's closer.
