I agree completely. The best deterrent is a mean sounding dog.

Default It's racket

While having an alarm system may give you some protection -- and peace of mind -- much of the industry is essentially a racket. Try to get an existing system updated. Won't happen. Everyone is only interested in selling new systems.
This was what happened to us. Listening to salesmen, nothing about our exsting unit was right. It was misinstalled, etc.

Exactly... most criminals dont want to have to fool around with a dog. Even if they shot ole yellar.. the noise of the shot would draw more attention..not to mention no good watchdog is going to sit quietly by and let someone break in without alerting someone. I would keep the dog, if possible, in the house when away.. to prevent it from being poisoned a not to common but not outside the criminal mind's realm of possibilities.

There was one company that was going door to door selling alarms (that should raise a flag right there) Some people in my neighborhood purchased the system but the company eventually went out of business. I was told that some people didnt find out to months later that their system was not being monitored. The underworld of course was to first to take advantage of the situation by targeting those who displayed the company's sign in their yard.. That not to mention, as I said in my previous post, it was an all in one system.. which according to some experts are easy to disable as opposed to the "split systems" where the keypad is separate from the portion of the system that dials the police....which is also usually hide in a closet or basement.
