Hunt Valley is a suburb north of Timonium. It's a good 25 minute drive from downtown Baltimore. It's a nice, suburban area, pretty much the northern end of the immediate Baltimore suburb development, close to rural-ish areas.
On a side note, there are some really nice areas close to "slums" in Baltimore.

on a side note, for anyone who doesn't feel like driving, the light rail stops right outside hunt valley towne center (where wegman's and a ton of other shops are).
