You might like Hampden, too. Or a host of other places depending on where you feel comfortable. I suggest you drive around and walk around a bit in the areas to see if you will really like them. In some areas the apartments may not be advertised online, and you might find a place that you would like to rent. There is a neighborhood in Baltimore for you. A small list of places that are safe (for a city), clean and close to things is:
Barclay
Bolton Hill
Canton
Charles North
Charles Village
Downtown
Fells Point
Federal Hill
Greenspring
Guilford
Homeland
The Inner Harbor
Lauraville
Loyola/Notre Dame
Mount Vernon
Mount Washington
Ridgeleys Delight
I just did a search and I realized that there's no good neighborhood map that shows all the areas! ~ Maybe I will try to start on one in my spare time. The best I could find is this one from LiveBaltimore:
Live in Baltimore - Neighborhood Map
I recommend you visit these areas during the day and at night.
