What part of Washington Blvd? It goes from fairly safe to questionable in just a few blocks so be careful.

I would say NO!! I lived in Pigtown (Washington Village) for several years and, though the area has great potential, you will have to deal a lot of of crime and nasty people. Espescially over on Nantioke, very rough.

Patterson Park is surely on its way to being a better neighborhood, but right now you should use caution. There is still a lot of crime, though most of it is fairly insignificant (car break-ins, prostitution, drug dealing.) I don't know anything about Leverton Ave, but judging by location only on google maps I presume that its still pretty iffy. I would suggest you drive by the property during the day and late at night. The difference a few hours makes can be mind-blowing. There are people on this forum who live in Patterson Park and enjoy it, location will be a key factor.

When I was looking for a house, I wasn't very comfortable with Nanticoke in Pigtown. But that was about 15 months ago, so I defer to the people that live there on that if they think otherwise.
I ended up buying in the neighborhood of Patterson Park and have been happy. But Leverton, at the very eastern edge of Patterson Park, is not a street that I would be comfortable on, so I don't recommend it. It's designed very strangely and, because of that, is a bit off the beaten track, so I don't know how well it is patrolled either.

Ok--Leverton Street. I happen to know about it because my neighbor's sister lives there and there was someone else on the forum a while back asking about it. Here goes: The major complaint she has is that many of our recent immigrants have moved there and they don't know how to properly dispose of the trash. She mentioned that it is a quiet street with about 20% of the homes being renovated. Many of the immigrant families have young children who can sometimes be loud. Other than that, she had no complaints.
You are right Helene-I live by Leverton and never even knew it was there until someone asked about it.

thanks all...
this website has been very helpful as the real estate agent(s) I am dealing with say they are not allowed to talk about safety.
Any other input would be greatly appreciated.
