Baltimore has not had streetcar in regular passenger operation since 1963. But one city, Finland's capital Helsinki, still operates twelve lines! In fact, the twelfth line was added last week and now there is talk about extending it to a high-rent seafront district. When first introduced years ago, the idea was defeated by businesses and residents who complained that streetcars would rob their precious parking places.
Now Helsingin Sanomat, the country's largest daily, reports that municipal authories have reopened the case. They would use a new narrow-gauge model.
