Moving to Baltimore
Hi! I'm going to be moving to Baltimore and working in the Inner Harbor area. I'd really like to live close enough to walk to work (a mile or two is fine), but it seems like the city isn't the safest. Are there places that are safe enough to walk home from work at night?
Oh, I'm a female in my mid-20s, if that makes a difference.

Well, what time of night are we talking about? Yes, you can walk along the waterfront to Fells Point, Little Italy, Federal Hill, Locust Point to get home. There are other neighborhoods also. I walk at night but not LATE at night.

Thanks for your response!
Probably 9 or 10 at the latest (at least I hope...I don't know what law firm hours are like in Baltimore yet)...after that I would probably get a cab. I'm looking at Canton, Fells Point, or Federal Hill.
I'm used to being in a place where I can walk anywhere, anytime, by myself, so I'm probably being over-cautious, but who knows.

Well, Baltimore has crime. That being said, I moved here from Boston and I do take a few more precautions here then there but I find Baltimore to be fine. To be honest, I am not sure I would walk anywhere at anytime in any city in our country.

I think that's a little over the top. I would walk in Baltimore during the day in the neighborhoods she is talking about. Definately not at night. Most cities other than Baltimore I'd feel comfortable walking in most of the time.

If we're talking about Canton, Fells Point, or Federal Hill-no problem walking day or night. I do that all the time. I am in Patterson Park and I do take more caution when walking late at night. What I meant in the above statement is that every city today has crime and there are certain areas in any city that I would take precautions. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.
