Default relocating to Maryland

You are caught between a rock and a hard place with your situation. One, if not both of you are going to have a long commute, maybe not so much in mileage as in congestion. Along the I95 corridor are many decent areas for housing, from Elkridge to the north to Silver Spring to the south. Another area you might want to look at is the Ft. Meade, Odenton, Glen Burnie, Severna Park area. All are south of Baltimore City and give quick access to route 295, I95 and 695. My advice, for what it's worth, is to drive into these areas over your days off and just look around. See who's coming and going, what the traffic patterns are, what shopping and eateries are around, etc. The best of luck to you both.

I don't mind to spend until 45 minutes to go to the office.

Default Tips for DC/Baltimore couples

My advice to all who have posted on this subject is to repeat what has been said before: Look around Silver Spring, College Park, Laurel, Greenbelt, Wheaton. Whichever way this goes, it will test your relationship.
The problem is that there is no easy commute. And there are no cheap apartments convenient to transportation modes that each of you needs.
I know a computer guy who works in the Alexandria area. He tried commuting from Pikesville, where his wife and kids live. Now he rents a room in Virginia and stays there three nights a week.
I know a guy who teaches at the National War College at Fort McNair, near Alexandria. He has to be out of his home in Ellicott City at 4:30 a.m. in order to be sure he gets to the early classes. Similarly, he has to leave Fort McNair by 2:30 p.m. or the traffic is going to be so horrendous that he might as well have dinner in Virginia and then drive home.
I myself commuted to D.C. from Washington, by MARC, for about six months. No complaints, except that it is not my cup of tea. I have met plenty of people who think nothing of it.
Basics from my vantage point:
You try to get as close to Washington as possible because that commute is a killer unless you are on a Metro line. As to the commute to Baltimore from the D.C. Beltway area, if you find housing near the interstates, it's not that bad by car but it is getting worse every day.
I knew a guy who lived in Takoma Park, who did it and said it was not bad. The reason: If you have normal working hours you are driving against the traffic on most mornings. But he needed to go just one exit on the beltway before hitting I-95 and downtown Baltimore was no problem because of the location of his company.
Good luck to all of us.

Try Columbia, MD. Good schools, safe, hospital, mall, etc.
