Default Brisk walk in Patterson Park

My Setting Sun Walkers did a brief but brisk walk through Patterson Park today. The park keeps getting better. Some parents with kids braved the wind.
We noticed a new thing along Eastern Avenue, neare Kenwood (I think): metal sculptures.
We then retired to Chicken Rico's on Eastern Avenue. Had a tasty, cheap and big lunch. Lots of vacancies on Eastern Avenue, which is becoming more and more Hispanic.

Those sculptures were put up during Artscape. Did you notice a ton of hookers and gangs walking around as described in the other thread?

No, I did not see any hookers or gangs. As the neighborhood has continued to gentrify and joggers and dog-walkers have taken over Patterson Park, police presence has increased and the once visible hookers have largely disappeared.
I am puzzled by the gang talk. Those animal sculptures I was referring to have long tails and other elements that would seem to be easily breakable. The fact that they have not been vandalized indicates to me that things around Patterson Park are well under control.

I thought for sure those tails would of been snapped off by now.

One thing I love about the Park that many people are not completely aware of is the history. Anytime I am out walking there with my students I have them imagine the British cresting the hill over the way of Highlandtown...and 12,000 or so Baltimoreans lined up on the other side. The "hill" that the Pagoda sits on top of is actually a redoubt built by the Balto militia. Also...imagine sitting there and seeing the glow of the DC burning off in the distance. wow

There is a fairly new kids book out that not only describes all of this through a child's eyes...it has some great illustrations. love it
