Question i dont understand why?

i have lived in baltimore all my life and nothing is wrong here.this would be a great place to move.all the people here are friendly and tax price isnt to high, here in baltimore were like family.if anything more people should move here instead of going to places where people arent as nice and dont treat you like family.i dont understand why baltimore is such a bad place to people who wouldnt want to move here because its a really awsome place.

I like Baltimore but can understand why people are unsure about more here.

The property taxes seem extremely high to me especially since there are so many rough areas. There are nice and recovering area but you have to know the city to find some of them.

The property tax rates make absolutely no sense. You can look at a house in the Patterson Park/Butchers Hill/Canton area and see one tax rate, then cross the street and find a rate 3-4x that. Federal Hill is particularly obnoxious that way.

Wow you are insane if you see nothing wrong with the taxes especially considering my parents' waterfront home in Annapolis has comparable taxes to my 900 sq ft townhouse in Pigtown.

Baltimore City?

The murder/crime rate is one of the highest in the Country

Police are undermanned

The Mayor has just been indicted

The roads suk

The underground economy and welfare is the only thing keeping the City on the map

There are good things also:

Two awesome sports teams

Great restaurants

Several wonderful neighborhoods (recently infested by criminals and gangs though)

Spectacular history

Cool zoo and the aquarium

School of the Arts/Cultural events in general are pretty good

Close to DC, York etc...

Decent rail/metro system (could use a lot of work though)

There are issues with every city. If you are looking for happiness then you need to look within. Take some road trips, travel abroad, make friends and play sports. People in Hawaii complain about life there as well and so do others in London and so do people in Australia. When everyone grows up they have this feeling of what they want to become in life, then if they achieve those goals or not they start feeeling some emptiness in their lives. After the emptiness, comes the hopelessness, then they die. I'd say the best times of a person's life is when you're younger an unaware of what's in store for you.

Which wonderful neighborhoods do you think are recently infested with criminals and gangs?

Last weekend in Lauraville. Two 12-year old (give or take) kids on a bike tried to rob me and my girlfriend while walking down the sidewalk till I dismissed them. Actually I'm lucky they didn't have a gun. That's reality.
