500 North or 500 South Madeira----500 South is fine. 500 North--look elsewhere.

Madeira is one of those little alley-type streets. It's very narrow. I don't think you would be able to park there.

I have several friends that live on Madeira. They love it...but you can't park on that street.

Default Thanks!

Thank you!

We've looked at the propety several times and are ok with the fact we can't park on the street. We're coming from the other side of the harbor (Federal Hill/Locust Point area), so we just weren't sure about being that close to the park. Thanks for your help!

I was just in the Canton/Fell's Point/Upper Fell's Point area doing some preliminary scanning of properties to potentially buy (I'm not even sure I'll be moving to baltimore, but housing availability is a big component of my decision). How do people deal with the parking issue? Do you just become accustomed to driving around forever searching for a spot? We could literally drive several blocks and not see a single open space.

Also, how much has the recent real estate downturn affected this area? Have prices declined quite a bit? Looking at the MLS listing it seems like you can easily get a decent 2BR/1Bath or 2/2 for less than $200,000. I've read elsewhere online that you couldn't get anything for less than $200,000 without doing major renovations (but these were written at least a year ago), so I'm thinking the market as really turned.

Default Parking

I can't say much about the market because I'm a renter. But, I will say that as renters, my boyfriend and I have had more nego power than ever before.

As for parking, I have been spoiled because I had a garage (a rare thing in Federal Hill). But, if my garage was taken then yes I would occasionally have to drive in circles for 20 mins until I found something. It sucks, but its something you just do to live in the city. Weekdays aren't as bad as weekends, but if you're anything like me, you won't drive much on the weekends b/c everything is a short walk/cab ride away.

Good luck!

After a week or two, you become familiar with the area and find "go to" places for spots. Plus you'll figure out the timing, like if you come home at 11 on a Sat don't even try a certain block. It cuts down on the search time significantly.
