Hi Guys,
Moving to Baltimore in April and looking for an apartment. Decided to look at the White Marsh area and get a 6 month lease so I can take my time finding my niche area in the City. Is the WHITE MARSH area a good one for a mid-twenty single girl? How is the communte into the City from there? Thanks for the info and advice!!!

I'd go for an apt in Canton from the start w/ a 6 month lease, if you are planning to move to the city anyway. Not much going on for nightlife in White Marsh except the shopping mall and avenue.

Agreed. White Marsh isn't a real place. There's the mall and a bunch of roads. If you're sure that you want to move to the city, I'd just go there. Canton and Mount Vernon are safe bets for first Balto. City neighborhoods.

White Marsh is a snooze fest for anyone under 30... very suburban. Plus, a commute down 95 south everyday seems harmless if you've traveled it during an off-peak time, but most likely it will take you double the amount of time to get through WM and onto 95 in the morning, not to mention the hellish things that happen if there is a significant event (i.e. accident) on 95. Trust me, that commute will make your blood pressure skyrocket and you'll wish you just moved right into the city from the start.

I second the Canton or Mt. Vernon areas for your first taste of Baltimore, Charles Village also has a mostly student or recent grad population, so that may be something worth looking into as well.
