Default Job in Linthicum - Rental Advice

My husband just accepted a job in Linthicum, and we're looking for a place to rent. We'd love to rent a house, but apartments are an option. We're hoping to pay no more than $1500 but we can maybe go a little higher if we have to.

I guess I'm wondering-- how far in the suburbs can you go before the commute starts getting ridiculous? Are the northern suburbs too far? Are Ellicott City/Columbia/Elkridge a ridiculous commute?? We're having a lot of trouble finding anything in the Linthicum itself, and I've been looking all around as well-- Hanover, Glen Burnie (which I hear is questionable, but there seems to be a lot more available here-- is it really that bad??), Severn area. I keep reading apartment reviews all around the suburbs of Baltimore, and they're all negative and scary, and I'm just maybe hoping for some "real people" advice here. (It seems like things that I consider normal apartment living are negative to others and vice versa, and there's a lot of weeding out there.)

I've been searching the forums and reading and I think I have a decent idea of suburbs that are more safe than others, but I'm still having trouble knowing what to do with that information.. where to find places.

Any advice would be great. We're having to move pretty fast as well.. this month, and we won't be able to visit before moving. Any website recommendations, anything I should know about? Heck, I'll take apartment/house recommendations as well if that's allowed here.

Glen Burnie can be pretty dodgy. The other thing to keep in mind is that in the Maryland suburbs (especially those in Anne Arundel), the post office designation doesn't always match the location. Some stuff you see for Linthicum may be listed as Glen Burnie. Use google maps. Hanover, Linthicum, these aren't actually real towns. Just sort of difficult to define areas.

Try Odenton? My friends rent an apartment here: Hyper Media Portal | Home They love it. They used to live in Cockeysville and really prefer living south of Baltimore and not North of it. Less traffic, they say.

As far as a "ridiculous" commute, none of those towns you listed would be ridiculous by our standards here. Many of my coworkers commute 60 miles each way, every day. I seriously have no idea how they do it. Elkridge to Linthicum is the shortest one you listed, I think. Ellicott city and columbia wouldn't be too horrible, either.

Try searching Severna Park and pasadena, too. They might have something for you, too.
