Default Another one of those...

Sorry that we (potential B'more mothers) keep posting the same kinds of questions, but like another poster pointed out, all situations are a bit different so the answers will vary as well.
My husband has been working in the BWI area for over a year now. I am considering moving myself and our two girls to the area. If I do make the move, I would like to not have to work for awhile so I can get the kids settled in. Husband doesn't make much $$ (under $70K) so rent/mortgage needs to be pretty low (by B'more standards). We are used to extremely low cost of living, parents around to help, no real crime, etc. Understanding that we are in for a bit of a shock, is there anywhere we can live cheaply ($1,200/mo rent) BUT have a good school system? Or on the other side, live really on the cheap (BUT SAFE) and go to a private school? I just want to settle in the right place (lots of families around)so they go to good enough schools the first time--one daughter (10) is not good at changing schools/making friends easily. The other is still in preschool. any suggestions on where to start looking for a family friendly, safe, low cost place to live??

Have you checked Glen Burnie? That is fairly close to BWI, but the school system is Anne Arundel County. I'm not sure how it compares in quality to Baltimore County.

I'm guessing that some of the older Baltimore County suburbs would fit your needs. They are generally safe, family-friendly, and you would be in that county's school system. Arbutus and Halethorpe (zip 21227) would be reasonably close to BWI, if that is important. Dundalk (21222) also, but some sections of it are not so great.

North of the city, Parkville (21234) and Overlea (21236) are also worth checking out.
