Take your own advice, you might be surprised

What are you trying to imply, exactly??? My wife and I have taken our kids down there twice so far this season. Each time we went we spent severaal hours at the pool soaking up the rays, chatting with folks, playing with our boys in the kiddy pool area (there's a mushroom shaped water-sprayer thing that my youngest would sit under all afternoon if we let him). The staff was courteous and professional, and the crowd of folks at the pool were really welcoming. We would have gone for a dip more often, but the pool hasn't been open during the week until this week.
A couple weekends ago the DBFA (Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance) rented out the whole pool and had over 300 people partake in their second annual summer picnic in the park. They had food and drinks catered in, and from all accounts, they had a great time, too. Unfortunately, I didn't find out about the event until after it was held, or we would have joined up and attended. Oh well, there's always next year, I guess.
When have you last enjoyed the pool? If it's been a while, or if you've never been and you're trying to ster the pot, maybe you should check your fear of your fellow man at your front door and enjoy the city you call home. Baltimore is truly a wonderful place if you actually try to enjoy it once in a while.
Speaking of enjoying things, Latin American Fest was held in Patterson park over the weekend and it was awesome. Great music and dancing, interesting Latin American Food and beer, and lots of friendly folks.

Thanks for all the replies! Still trying to interpret all this talk about the pool...anybody else been there recently? We're still waiting on the final call about whether or not we'll be moving down there, but I would like to go check it out before my husband makes the final decision. We've been to Baltimore, but never looking at it as if we were to move there. Looks like Patterson Park/Butchers Hill area is a good place to look. Any other suggestions as to specific boundaries in which to look?
Thanks!

Now you're making me feel old. I'm only 28. Do you mean that since it's people in their early 20's that it's more of a partying crowd? I certainly don't want to feel like I'm in a college neighborhood in Boston. I was part of that obnoxious crowd at one point.

I think Federal Hill is more like young professionals that like to party than college students.

All the neighborhoods mentioned by rowh are nice and you should check them out. The best way to see them is drive around the area so you get a general feel of the neighborhood then get out and walk it if you feel comfortable.
