I dunno... I'm not a big fan of wholefoods. I can appreciate fresh produce but its a rip-off. They advertise 3 quarts of apple juice for 7 bucks?!
I'm used to getting good fresh food at a good price. I've been driving to costco on Pulaski highway a lot. Its 10 miles out of the city but the money you save on food and getting gas there is worth it.
Guess you guys don't have any shop-rites.

Lexington Market sounds promising. Sorry to turn everything into a safety issue but is it safe to go to this thing??
It seems to be located in West Bmore, and my google search turned up some people warning others not to go to the Lexington market because of crime.

It's on the west side of downtown. Go early on a Saturday if you are a bit worried. Better for you though is the farmers market held under the JFX on Sundays. Or, you could walk from where you are to Cross Street Market. You would probably prefer that over Lexington. Although Faidleys is in Lexington and I love that place. http://www.faidleyscrabcakes.com/story.html

The person stated that they are moving to Mount Vernon. Why in the world would you point them to Wegman's out in Hunt Valley? BTW, I was born in Baltimore and lived there for quite a few years. I think the suggestions of the Whole Foods in Harbor East, the Eddies in Mount Vernon and all of the great markets (Lexington, Cross Street, etc.) are great suggestions. I would also add the great farmers market which is under the freeway interchange, if it still is operating. I'm sure it is. Baltimore will never be a real city if its residents don't start treating it like it is. Sending someone to Hunt Valley to grocery shop when the person states they plan to live in downtown Baltimore makes no sense! LOL The suggestions of the Whole Foods in Mt Washington isn't much better! There's a Whole Foods right downtown!

Yes Lexington market is safe, but IMO the clientele is a little ghetto, so be prepared for that. For the guy who said why shop at whole foods, my answer is non-GMO Organic food. I like to save money as well, but I would rather save $ elsewhere than in my tummy. According to the press black women are more likely to drop dead from a host of diseases. :rolls eyes Even if I can't eliminate the health-destroying stress in my life, I can at least eat decent food. If I have a choice, I'll pay more to be guaranteed that my food is relatively free from pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, byproducts of unhealthy animals, carbon monoxide not to mention Genetically modified fruits and vegetables and milk from "cloned" cows. Eww
Granted I did just destroy some ribs from Andy Nelson's LOL but you get the picture.

If it's free of pesticides and herbicides, them it's genetically modified. Farmers don't do hand weeding.

Ya know, I don't understand the fascination with Wegmans. I actually drove out there and while I enjoyed the store, I kept on thinking, "Why the hell did I drive all the way out here to see this?". I mean, if one was close to me, I would probably go shop there but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to go there. The city has so many more convenient places to go to that offer the same deal.

I like Wegmans' meat department, but honestly I despise the store for one reason. I'm there to buy groceries -- get in, get the stuff, get out. It seems to be more of a tourist destination, and people tend to lollygag....it's a little frustrating.
