Extend the territory furthur: the entire country. A bullet can strike you anywhere. And being that we don't build our houses out of concrete here, like so many other parts of the world, a bullet can pass right through a living room wall.

The only ones I knew who are free from bullets in this country, live in very, very safe neighborhoods, where there are very strict qualifications for living there. Most of them, outside of mausoleums, live 6 feet under.

Come to the Catonsville area in Baltimore County. Thats where I live. Pretty peaceful. Dont live in the city or theres a high chance something bad will happen to you. Baltimore is a real messed up place. I heard that we just beat Detroit as the worst crime ridden city in the US.

LOL you guys are so funny. Hmm shot in face? Well, I think you can find a place where you won't get shot. YOu may have to move here and ask around. Those may be older neighborhoods with older folks living in them. There are lots of leafy outskirts in Baltimore that are cheap and very safe, even though they are not posh. Upper Park heights area and some others. I know more about the "hot" areas, but yeah there are places that are not "hot" that you can live with a little bit of money and not even be robbed. Maybe some people here can give more details.

I came down and checked out Hampden a few weeks ago like a lot of people had suggested. I was some what let down...it definitely is where the "hippsters" are all moving to...but it was kind of run down and it was really dirty, trash and crap all over the streets. It just seemed like a very unkept neighborhood. It seems like Baltimore has a lot of potential...but there are too many trashy residents to try and keep anything nice. But that being said, everyone I talked with in Hampden seemed very friendly...there's a nice record store there and all of them were more then helpful. If I could move to Hampden and work in Hampden so I didn't have to go anywhere else in B-more, I probably would. But most likely that wouldn't happen. I traveled around a lot in the city of Baltimore the same day...getting lost quite a few times...and yes, there are some serious shady areas. I had a homless guy in Fells Point tell me if I move to Baltimore be prepared to hear cop sirens everyday. I think I'm gonna go back down and check out Federal Hill next time, all the pictures of it look real nice...but its probably way out of my price range.

Do yourself a favor and everyone else--choose somewhere else to live. You seem to want Utopia. It doesn't exist here.

jonjj seems a little bitter. Honestly, there are some other nice areas in Baltimore. Charles Village, around Hopkins - which is close to Hampden, is pretty nice. Lauraville is pretty nice too. Obviously Inner Harbor and the surroundings (Federal Hill, Little Italy, etc) have a lot to offer. I personally think you'd be surprised by how cool and unique some neighborhoods are. I like the Mt. Vernon area too. Greektown is small but worth checking out. Canton is over-priced but has some nice areas as well. But yes, I agree with you, some areas suck beyond belief, such as the Harford Road corridor as you head into East Baltimore, North Avenue, most of West Baltimore, etc. And more along your point, it's all relative. If you want the good aspects of city life, you have to put up with undesirables as well.

I'm really not that bitter at all. Read the previous posts made by this person and you will understand my statement. Just tired of the whining.

LOL -- Federal Hill is great...until the bars close for the night. You won't like that either, Goldilocks.

Exactly, give this man a little of the attitude he can expect in Baltimore: shut up and/or go away.

Seriously though, $150K does not go far around here and Baltimore is not Charm City in the way the name implies. Think of it like Pittsburgh and Memphis had a baby, then add a-hole factor to almost everyone here. Driving here sucks, living here sucks, the people here suck, deal with it or leave.
