Why don't you move to Cherry Hill or Edmondson Village? I hear those areas are especially nice.

I am curious whether this is a sarcastic comment or not. I knew a lot of people who left the Edmonson area (Dukeland, Eversley, Poplar Grove, Harlem Avenue) area in the early 1950's because it had gotten so bad. Have things improved, or are you just joking around???? Anyone else's comments would be welcome, too. I have no need to know, I'm just curious . . . Some of the houses there were pretty good IIRC.

Cherry Hill is probably the worst violent crime-ridden, gang-infested neighborhood in south Baltimore.

Cherry Hill does have issues...Edmonson Village ,in comparison, may not be as bad. There are alot of 'Plans' for Edmonson Village in terms of the redevelopment of the Uplands housing development that is scheduled to deliver mixed income housing and some new retail to the area. If the Red Line is built.. that may also give the area a boost. The sections of Edmonson Village that back up to Hunting Ridge and north of Edmonson Ave are probably the better sections if you are considering the area

Cherry Hill and Edmondson Village are HORRIBLE neighborhoods.Baltimore City is a an awful place to live high violent crime pretty much everywhere. A property tax rate that is DOUBLE any other jusidiction in the state. If you plan to buy just ask what the property taxes are on a property. How can I back these statements up- simple---You can check the taxes on property by checking the tax rates on line at SDAT- Maryland State Department Assessments and Taxation and the crime maps from the Baltimore City Police are on line and open to the public to view. Just look for youself at all the crime- you decide where there is an area with little crime. Also keep in mind that Baltimore does have very good emergency medical care, so many of the shootings do not turn into homicides because of the quality of medical care.

Dear Jon -you dont know why I go by slug. Aside from your snide comments it is obvious you love Balt city. As an ex city resident I can tell you I don't. Nonetheless, what have I written that is not true? Cherry Hill and Edmondson village are horrible areas.
No one should take my word for it or your word as to the merits of a particular area. That is why I wrote check out the crime stats for yourself. The crime stats speak for themselves. The quality of housing in those areas speak for themselves. Do you have some objection to someone looking at the facts for themselves? Further I did give credit to where it is due and that is the emergency health care in the city-none better.

yep... looking at crimebaltimore.com, it seems there are only a couple of areas without too much violent criminal activity (the fists represent assaults or robberies at gunpoint, and the cross-hairs are pretty self-explanatory).
It seems certain parts of Federal Hill, parts of Harbor East (west of Caroline St and south of eastern ave) and certain parts of Fells and parts of Canton are without violent crime. Its surprising that the map shows there have been recent assaults in Canton. It looks like a suburb out there...
Also, Mt Vernon had quite a bit of aggravated assault and robberies according to the website. The rest of the city is drowned in the different icons for crime.
I don't know why they designed the city in a way that housing projects are scattered all over the place. There is the Perkins Home project on Eastern Avenue right next to Little Italy and 2 blocks away from Harbor East. So much for wanting to buy a place here.
