I don't have to worry about my car being broken into, stuff being stolen, the car being stolen, etc...

Ditto. I keep a car for emergencies or getting out of town and every time that insurance bill comes in I cringe. But, with low milleage, I should get a decent price for it when it comes time for it to go.

Parking can be difficult in the Charles Village area. Look into signing up for Zipcar if you think you might occaisionally need a car. They are available around Baltimore and I know there used to be at least one parked on University Parkway. Car Sharing, an alternative to car rental and car ownership – Zipcar

I wish I didn't need a car but I work out of the city. It's a company vehicle at least.
If we every get the Red Line a lot more people won't need a car to get around the city. There are a few areas right now that I could see people doing fine without one.

I couldn't imagine living in Baltimore without a car although there are definitely people that do it and get by fine. Although in theory I'd like to get by with no car... just the thought of getting everywhere using mass transit, especially in Baltimore makes me want to shower and take an advil.

I'm coming from a VERY bike friendly city so the apparent lack of such an environment in Baltimore is a let down especially since I hadn't planned on owning a car either. Is it really that dangerous a place to bike in?

I'm still hopeful about the cycling possibilities, actually, and I'm coming from probably the most bicycle-friendly place on the planet. Not very many people do it here, yet, but the potential is good, and bicycle fever is sort of sweeping the country right now. The more people do it, the safer it becomes, of course.

Hey if anyone wants to implement a bike-to-work program where you work, would you please PM me?
