Default Commuting from Mt Vernon to Pasadena

Hi all,
Im relocating to Baltimore to work for Constellation energy and I think I've settled on the Mt. Vernon area. My only concern is traffic on I-83 in the morning coming from Mt. Vernon. Does anyone have any idea what to expect on southbound I-83 from the city to Pasadena? Thanks in advance.

What Constellation office are you working in? I'm also an employee and I live in Mt. Vernon. However, my office is in downtown Baltimore. I-83 does not go all the way down to Pasadena. From Mt. Vernon, I-83 runs about a mile and then dead-ends into downtown Baltimore; about a 7 minute drive.

Ill be working at the Fort Smallwood complex at first then at whatever plant in the area they need me at. I know 83 doesnt run the whole way i just figured that would be a major congestion area, so i guess a better question would be how bad is the traffic in the morning going south?

I work in the Power Generation affiliate as well. I visit the Fort often. From Mt. Vernon, you're better off taking St. Paul St. south to Lombard St. to 295 (I-83 will be out of your way to get to). In the morning, you can expect traffic to be pretty hairy. When I head to FSRC (Fort Smallwood Road Complex), it takes me 30-40 mins with traffic; 20-25 without traffic.

I didn't realized FSRC was was considered Pasadena, but you are correct.

There's no reason to take I-83 south from Mt. Vernon. You could head west to MLK, which will take you to 295 or 95.

Amen. Two miles after the power station on the right side is Stoney Creek Inn. They have a terrific crabcake special on Wednesday. Try their fried sweet potato, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

On another note, im flying out from Cincinnati next week to look for an apartment. Do you guys have any tips? or any suggestions on what streets are better than others in Mt. Vernon? All i know about the area is what ive read here and a few other sites, but nothing has really been too specific. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

I can only speak for myself and hope that no one takes offense to my recommendations. I would use the following boundries (draw a box using the streets below and you'll have a rough idea) :

West - Charles St. (maybe another block over to Maryland Ave.)
East - Calvert St. (maybe another block over to Guildford Ave.)
North - Mt Royal Ave.
South - The neighborhoods to the south of Mt Royal Ave. are all pretty nice. There are nice neighborhoods to the north as well. I'm just speaking of my own experience and knowledge.

I live on the corner of Charles and Chase st. in a building called the Belvedere (1 E. Chase St. 21202). Its a condo building but some folks rent thier condos out. You can check craigsllist. Some other buildings to checkout are 1001 St. Paul St., 1118 St Paul St., and 1101 St. Paul St. Most of those buildings will have apartments for rent.

Good luck and welcome to Baltimore.
