Wink Washington Park / Pigtown

My husband and I are hoping to move out of Michigan. We have interviewed in NC, CO and now we have an interview in Baltimore. (Well, Lutherville-Timonium). We are looking for housing that we can rent for the first year or maybe even couple of years while we get more familiar with the area and of course save some money since our savings have been nearly depleted like everyone else's here in Metro Detroit.

We have looked everywhere and it seems to be a very expensive area to live! I don't mind living in the city OR in the country, I just want a clean place and a safe neighborhood. Additionally we would rather my husband have a commute of no more than 30-40 minutes. I have found some housing that is affordable in the Washingotn Park and Barre Circle areas. Is it a safe area? High Crime rate? Many families? Is it clean? Walkable? Any input would be appreciated or any advice on areas we could look to rent a clean 2 bedroom place in a nice area for less than $1000 a month.

Thanks everyone!

Jennifer

There will definately be people here that will tell you Pigtown is a great area to live (seems to be a controversial subject here), but in my opinion its, at best, boderline ghetto. It's been billed as an up and coming neighborhood for a while without any real proof that's actually happening far as I can tell. Clean and safe would not exactly be the first couple words that jump into my mind to describe it. While its not horribly unsafe like some areas of Baltimore its still quite rough around the edges. There are worse places to live in Baltimore for sure, but it wouldn't be somewhere I'd personally consider living (and I do live in the city).

You will need to visit Baltimore before you decide on a place to live... its not somewhere I would shop extensively without actually seeing it for yourself.

Thank you I am learning that! I appreciate your honesty. We will be there for a week while my husband interviews, I will have time to explore then.
