Looking for a creative way to get to JHH
I just started a master's program at the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus, but unfortunately I live in Silver Spring (and cannot move to Bmore for various reasons). I've been taking the metro to the Marc and catching the JHU shuttle at Penn Station, but the whole journey takes 1.5 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, which is already becoming unbearable.
I DO have access to a car - it is currently at my parents' place because I would have to pay $100/mo to park it at my condo, but I'm paying $255 a month for a Transit Link Card, so if I can get my overall commute (including gas etc) to cost under that I could justify it. I've considered driving to the Light Rail station at Linthicum and transferring to the subway at Lexington Market, or driving to one of the subway stops west of the city and taking the subway in. I would prefer not to have 3 steps to my commute, though, and driving to the west metro stations takes about an hour - thats a lot of gas to waste. Am I missing any other ways of getting there?
(I do not want to drive directly to JHH because a) I hate driving downtown but more importantly b) the permits are too expensive).
Any ideas are welcome!!

Silver Spring to Hopkins? Good luck. Maybe drive to Owings Mills and take the metro. It goes right to Hopkins door. That would be just two connections: car and metro. Not sure on how you would get to Owings Mills but there should be a "backroads" way that may work.

Might be easier for him to park at Old Court, Milford Mill or even Reisterstown Plaza for the B'more Metro instead of Owings Mills.
from: Silver Spring md to: owings mills md - Google Maps
Not sure if this will save any time either. You'll get stuck on I-95 and 695 in traffic. Figure it will take around 45 min-1 hour. And then it'll take another 30 minutes for the metro.
Anyway, how about placing an ad either here or Craigslist to find someone who works at JHH near your area with similar scheduling and offer to pay for a ride?

Good suggestion and you're right. I was wondering if maybe there was another way to get there instead of 95 up--maybe 29 to Colombia and somehow get over. All said and done, Marc may be the best option.

Thanks for the input - I was hoping there was some magical bus that picked people up south of the city and took them straight to Hopkins, but I suppose that doesn't exist.

Well there is the 310 Commuter Bus. It starts at the mall in Columbia and ends at JHH. Dunno if it fits your schedule though. Click here -> Title
Not sure if it's gonna save any $ either, monthly pass is $119, but if you only ride it a few times a week, you could probably just pay each time instead.

That might work!! If I get the college pass I just have to pay the difference, which would save some $$ I think. Thanks!!
