Another commuter post.
I live in Columbia and am considering a job change to downtown Silver Spring. It's 25 miles away on the map, but DC traffic is now bumper-to-bumper all the way to Baltimore. And I am NOT a morning person so doing a 6:30am commute is out of the question. Does anyone know anything about the realities of the trip? |

I was like you in that 6:30 AM was foreign to me. I learned quickly after months of gridlock heading south from Columbia between 7:30 and 8:00 AM that the one and only option is to leave between 5:30 and 6:00. Heading west on 495 to SS in the morning is a 24/7 crapshoot with mystifying bumper to bumper at all hours. You may want to head west on 108 over to Georgia Ave extended and then head south. Unfortunately, that may be crowded also. Georgia Ave and 495 is a major traffic nightmare.
