Hi all,
I'm relocating to Baltimore this summer and am really debating whether or not I should have a car. I know everyone says it's more fun/safe to have a car, but I'm getting paid very little, so I could really save a few hundred bucks on car insurance, parking at home, and parking at work. So wondering if you all think it'll be livable in terms of grocery shopping, going out, etc (for a year--that's probably how long I'll be in Baltimore)? I'm considering living in the Mount Vernon area, ideally by the Peabody, so I can take the Hopkins shuttle to work. There are some apartment options closer to the downtown /Charles Ctr metro area, but I'm wondering how safe it is for a single gal like myself to ride the metro? Thanks a lot for all your input! ![]() |

I think you will be fine without a car in the Mount Vernon area. In that area parking would most likely be a problem anyway. The Metro as well as the light rail in Baltimore are fairly safe.

The metro and the light rail are safe during the day. If you plan on working late night hours be sure you have somebody to ride with. The city isn't such a good place these days.

If you have to live without a car in Baltimore, Mt Vernon is the place to be.
You can walk to Eddie's (grocery store), and have a ton of great restaurants close by. You can also hop on the light rail. You'll be fine. |
