I drove through Pig Town last week to check it out and it was very interesting. I would love to find a project that is commercial on the first floor and residential above - and still reasonably priced. I've been looking on line in that area but haven't found anything yet.
To the people that live there: Do you think the transformation in another Locust Point/Federal Hill is inevitable? Sure seems like it. Has it reached critical mass yet?

NotmeAgain........... I believe something you are looking for will be starting construction sometime soon. It will be at the corner of Cross and Washington BLVD.

What kind of business are you looking to open? Would you live upstairs?
I own a small cafe and now live above -- I love it. Feel free to stop by if you want to chat about the neighborhood!

so what's it like now
Hi, I know that no one has posted on this thread for a year but I'm hoping to get it restarted. I am very close to making an offer to buy a home on glyndon ave., and Im wondering how things have been going in Pigtown these last 12 months, especially as the real estate market has declined. Although as a first-time buyer I'm glad to see a buyer's makret for a change, I am nervous that if things don't rebound fairly quickly, Ptown could be vulnerable to a significant re-decline. It seems to me like such a perfect location -- with it's easy proximity to highways, the University, the stadiums, the park (with a golf course!) the only that could stop it, it seems to me, would be a decline in the economy. But of course that's what we're now having.
So, soap lady -- you still in the soap business?
Coffee house lady -- still open? (I hope so.)
How's life and business these days in Pigtown, and how (if at all) have things changed since last spring?
Thanks for any info you have.

Their website said that it's "economically/racially diverse" and I was wondering if that is just marketing talk for "the ghetto" or what not. so anything you guys can tell me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a billion.

My daughter is a JH-pgy2 and the neighborhood we bought in looks good. The neighbors are great, the street is quiet and peaceful, and the area is looking up (according to the veterans). I am optimistic!!! This website also reflects the positive things going on in Bmore and has many wonderful people who give a damn. I hope we're all on a roll. Regards.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Yes, I'm still open. I don't know of any soap business here that operates a retail store -- if there is such a person, I'd love to see her open a store!
I don't know where you're moving on Glyndon Ave, but I know quite a few people who live on that street, and you'll have some terrific neighbors.
There are some really exciting things happening here -- it's a great time to move to Pigtown!

I grew up in that area and moved out when I was pregnant with my daughter. It was so~so when I was growing up and then it got worse. While yuppies may be moving back in trust me that is still the ghetto!!

Yes, I'm still in the soap business. I don't have a retail store, but I do sell online and at craft fairs. I also do wholesale and private label soaps.
Progress in Pigtown has slowed down a bit - partly because of the winter and partly because of the economy. I'm dying to see the project on the corner of The Boulevard and Cross get underway. What a difference THAT will make.

Did you happen to read the article in the Daily Record about Pigtown? They mentioned that project, and I also know that the project at the far end of the 700 block (towards Barre Street) will begin soon.
Interesting things are happening!
