Default young professional relocating to Owings Mills

Hello, I am a 23 year old professional who recently accepted a job in Owings Mills. A few family friends of mine recommended that I not live right in Owings Mills because of safety issues so I am looking for some advice about other areas. Basically, I grew up in a more rural area of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Because of this, I am not interested in living in Baltimore but am more interested in a safe suburb that has a decent amount of things to do for a younger person like myself. Ideally, I would like a town that doesn't rely on Baltimore's services but is self-sufficient, for example a place that has a mall, movie theater, and some bars/good restaurants. Some people have recommended Towson, Timonium, Cockeysville, are these good areas? I am also interested in learning more about White Marsh, Perry Hall, Middle River, or even northern AA county but I am unsure what the commute will be like. Thanks for any information!
