Default moving to baltimore

I have been reading a lot of the threads posted and here is just one more about moving to Baltimore.

I am a nurse and will be working at the University of Maryland.
Daughter will be attending University of Baltimore.
Granddaughter is only 18 months.
Have 2 dogs

looking to rent - at least a 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment, townhome, etc.
in a safe neighborhood where we can walk the dogs, and the baby.

I know that there are going to be good and bad areas in every neighborhood but am hoping that I can get some good advice here.
I will probably have to do all of my searching on the internet since we will not have the time or money to fly in before we move at the end of december.

appreciate any and all help with areas, streets to look on or avoid, ect

The sticky at the beginning of the Baltimore thread lists all of the neighborhoods in town. With the dogs, I suggest Patterson Park.

I would suggest one of the close in suburban neighbohoods. Traffic is not bad going into the city even at "rush hour" such as it is. There are light rail options available as well, depending on where you look.

The dog park in locust point is really nice and so is the area. It's kind of far from UB tho.

I can't help you with the air fare, but when I was in Baltimore for a week a few weeks ago, I stayed in Extended Stay America on York Road at Padonia for $55 per night. I got the rate through ORBITZ. I was a bit wary because I know what $55/night usually buys, but I was pleasantly surprised. No room service and you would not want to hold your daughter's Bat Mitzvah there, but it was clean, respectable, and quiet, with a mini-fridge and microwave if you want to cook your own. They were apparently catering that week to a number of subcontractors from around the country who were subcontracting to Comcast. There were about a dozen one-ton unmarked pickup trucks with cherry pickers in the back in the parking lot at night. They had license plates from as far away as Colorado and Alabama, and one or two had temporary Comcast stickers. Those workers must have been dead tired at night, because you could hear a pin drop after 7 PM.

The motel is a stone's throw from I-83, and a couple of stone throws from I-695, so it's easy to use as a base for getting around. If you don't cook there is a Panera for breakfast about a half-mile away, and a WalMart about a half-mile in the other direction, if you've left your high blood pressure pills at home, as I did.

So I give a THUMBS UP to Extended Stay America for anyone who wants to sample Baltimore while minimizing lodging costs. BTW, they told me there was no minimum days stay. Make your reservations through ORBITZ.

Yep. You really do need to find a cheap place to stay while you look for a permanent rental which meets your needs.
