I need advice about the best places to live with an easy commute to BWI. Criteria are:

1. SAFE area
2. Good schools
3. Reasonably priced (looking for single family home under $300k)
4. Family friendly

What areas or neighborhoods would you suggest and why?

Also, anyone have an opinion about the West Laurel area? Is it safe? The schools seem good and it's not super expensive.

You may want to check out Lithicum, a small outskirt of Glen Burnie.

If you have 300 to spend you should look around the Hanover area by the mall. Most are townhouses but they have been springing up all over the place. Glen Burnie and Millersville are also within spitting distance of the airport. If you'd like some more information, I can dig up what's available in the areas.

I don't think the schools are good in Linthicum or Glen Burnie.

I don't know much about the schools, but I have friends in the Arbutus/Relay area, and it definitely seems like a safe and family-friendly area. It is very BWI-accessible.

Price-wise, you'd have no problem.

Relay is small, and everyone seems to know each other, and there is a very active community aspect that is pretty close-knit.

Severna Park, Arnold or Crofton, a bit of a drive (20-30 min), but nicer than the burbs around BWI. 300k won't get you much in this area.

Parts of Laurel and Bowie are quite nice and have good schools too.

Catonsville is great, but it seems a bit hit and miss with the schools there.
