Wow Cottons, I feel a lot of empathy for you. I am sorry you had such a bad experience. But I have been in Baltimore City now for over 20 years and never had a problem with crime at all. When I was younger, I did get robbed in Boston so I guess I am supposed to say that Boston is a horrible place. I have also lived in several cities, including two out of the country but I have never felt more comfortable than I am in Baltimore. Maybe it is just me.

No can guarantee anything, anywhere. Tell any crime victims in Harford -- and there are such victims -- that they are COMPLETELY outside the crime-ridden area. My point: Crime is everywhere and most people are not crime victims.

I would not suggest Cecil County, or too much up that way -- my cousin moved there and shortly after was invited to join a little group -- the KKK -- I thought he was kidding, but he assured me, he wasn't.

Outsiders that move in and expect something other than what they find.
I see this a lot in my neighborhood and I can't understand it at all. A simple Google search would have brought up a wealth of information, including crime statistics...yet they still moved here and complain about it incessantly. It's absolutely bizarre. I honestly believe that some of them thought the crime and trash would magically disappear the minute they moved in. |

Newcomers have the zeal of converts. Which is good. They keep on complaining to police and 311 long after jaded old-timers give up. They can be hard to take but -- we were all newcomers once.

Unfortunately some of the information they get comes from sites like this. Where pollyannas swear there is no crime in THEIR neighborhood, or THEY never see prostitutes, or the "harbor" water is beautiful. What they need is someone to say, if you have two choices and Baltimore is one of them, take the other.

I get frustrated with folks who, for whatever reason, aren't honest about the the crime and filth in this city. I guess it depends on what you are used to. I'm not used to having bullets flying in my neighborhood. I feel it's not right to entice a young mother to bring two kids into this city. I don't care where you live. My daughter got robbed and assaulted in Pat Park in the middle of the day on a Saturday. Park full of people, not one gave her any help. Great park. Bring your kids there. Please. Unlike some I'm not going to tell people a bunch of crap about no crime in Balt. If you've lived here 20 years and never seen a crime, you've either got blinders on or you're one lucky sob.
