We saw a posting for a house we like in Guilford. We also saw several in Bradford. Any insights into these areas?

Also, I saw the post on Northern Maine and read that the further North you go, the more conservative the populace. I would love to find a conservative area. I kind of figured the farther I get from MA the better my chances are of finding a higher ratio of conservative types! Are there any "pockets" of very liberal areas to avoid or conservative areas to shoot for? MA is just saturated with very left-wing folks and although I have found many like-minded friends here we are are growing weary of being the 1/3 minority and I'd like to increase my odds when we move!

Milford or Greenbush, +/- 15 miles northeast of Bangor have a certain je ne sais quoi. There is, however, an urban thread of traffic called Stillwater Ave. between Milford and Bangor that will remind you of Boston's Rt. 128 at rush hour, though at a slower speed. Actually, to me, it's kind of a fun reminder of why I don't want to live in a real city.

Have you looked at the Aurora/Amherst area?....very pretty. Also, that 45 minutes can put you in Washington County, just on the edge, so you may want to look there too.

LOL

I often take Route 43 [Gilman falls road] to get onto the freeway from the twin bridges. It is a hair longer, but much faster.

The nice thing about Stillwater Ave is the bowling alley in Old Town with the nude bowlers every month.

Keep in mind that while they have gotten nationwide media coverage, according to the interviews the members are from as far away as Augusta. Old Town's bowling alley was the first they could find who would allow nude bowling.

Are they still offering nude bowling in Old Town? That might be a tourist attraction that could also help the local economy, especially on rainy days. Hungry bowlers need to eat too, ya know!

Did anyone even mention Lincoln? ... I believe it falls within the 45minute criteria!

Ugh. In my experience, the first people to get naked are generally the last people who should.

I assume there must be a mill up that way! When I worked in Bangor one of the really nice gals I worked with was from there!
