Hi all,

Desperately looking for and applying to jobs in my field (currently unemployed) and Bangor is the latest place I applied to.

It looks nice enough from the pics and stuff, but I want an insider's opinion. Is Bangor a nice place to live? Considering housing/utility prices, friendliness of people, etc.?

I'm a young single guy who would be moving there from a small rural town in Pennsylvania where there's not much to do at all, so for me Bangor is a "big city" lol.

Banor is a neat safe city. There are more young people than in most Maine towns. There are about five colleges in and near Bangor. You can walk anywhere. There is bus service and rents are reasonable.

I always thought it was a great little city. Easy access to the rest of the state from Bangor. Plenty to do and see right in and around town too.

I live just outside Bangor, you might call it the suburbs...lol...I crack myself up.

Anyway, I work in and do a lot of business in Bangor and while I am not sure I want to live in "the city", (I came from Miami, I'm seriously over it), I think Bangor is just what was said above: A very nice, laid back, safe little town with some neat things to do here and there and good people to meet. Everything you could want or need, you will find it there withOUT all the crap that you get from a big city.

(Just...be prepared for disappearing road lines...but you'll eventually get the hang of it.)

Awesome, thanks! Eh, the roads where I'm from can be pretty awful, but I'm used to it. I even kind of like it. It's like an obstacle course or something. Twisty, narrow roads full of potholes, with deer jumping out and sometimes faded or nonexistent lines...hehe.

Sounds like a great place for me. Now if they'll just accept me for the job there...

You can hunt deer within the city limits of Bangor.

Look, there's no jobs here either. but you would be near Bar Harbor; you might find summer employment there. Good luck. if I were you I would not make the move to here. But that's just me.

Take a look at the help wanted ads in the Bangor Daily News. You can get it on line. There are jobs here. Every one is a rung on your ladder. That rung is not to rest on, but to get you closer to your long term goal.

Bangor has a city bog with boardwalk, moose like to cross 95 near the Kenduskeag and yes, white lines are rumored to exist on the roads.

Eastern Maine Medical center and many churches allow your body and soul to rest easy. Eddies Flies, a fine shop and the good fishing abounds. Anyway there is always Mt Hope.

Town clears the sidewalks of snow I'm told.

Bangor is a great place to live... if you have a job. Please don't come without a job in hand, you will be very disappointed.
