Sorry my answer trumps yours. GAS PRICES !!!!! I win. If they were right around the corner than your answer would be valid but a local Mets fan travelling to Philly will cost them a few gas bucks to say the least.
If you are traveling from Timbuktu, namely Montauk, NY or Upstate NY then it would not be cost effective and you would be correct, however, those within the five boroughs and close proximities, especially those traveling in groups sharing expenses, gas is also cheaper on the turnpike, it's a no brainer.
