Too high of a contract for Barajas IMO. I really like Barajas as a back up. He's got power and could come up big off the bench in key situations. But they are paying him like a starter IMO.

They are paying him like a player worth a little less than one WAR
Barajas need to play pretty regularly to get 1WAR
For his career Barajas has been worth 7.8 WAR in 3985 Plate Appearances. That's 510 PAs for 1 WAR
Over the last 3 years he's been worth 3.4 WAR in 1214 PA's. 350 PA's for 1 WAR
The one-year deal [For Vicente Padilla] is believed to be for $2 million, plus incentives.
The Dodgers already have 5 established starters, so could Padilla be headed to the bullpen?
For $2 million he'd be cheap enough. Then, there is the most interesting part of the idea
In his career vs lefties Padilla has:
K/9=5.81, BB/9=4.34, HR/9=1.33, WHIP=1.64
In his career vs righties Padilla has:
K/9=6.65, BB/9=2.03, HR/9=.85, WHIP=1.12
In short, he's MUCH better vs righties than vs lefties.
As a starter he has to face whatever left-handed hitters are in the lineup.
As a reliever he could be brought in to face only right-handed batters.
This'd be a good deal for LA as he could still pitch multiple innings if needed, and make some spot starts but play more to his strength
Back when Padilla came up with Arizona and even after being traded to the Phillies, Padilla was being considered as a future closer. Could he be Plan B if (or when) Broxton has another meltdown?

Plan C
Kuo is much better than Padilla
In the last 2 years Kuo:
90 innings pitched, 50 hits, 3 HR, 18 ER, 31 walks, 105 K's, 1.80 ERA, 2.31 FIP
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- In a development that probably eliminates any chance two-time All-Star and former Gold Glove catcher Russell Martin will remain with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the club is close to a one-year agreement with the catcher Martin replaced more than four years ago, free agent Dioner Navarro, according to a source with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity
I don't mind this move. Navarro is coming off of a terrible year, so he should come cheap. I still think he is a talented player.
It'll be interesting to see what he gets. Hopefully another less than $1 million deal
2005-2006: Steady BABIP, steady ERA
2007: Low BABIP, low ERA
2008: High BABIP, high ERA
2009: Low BABIP, low ERA
2010: Slightly higher BABIP, slightly higher ERA
Since he doesn't get many K's, most of his pitches are put into play. If the defense catches them, he's fine. If they don't, he's in trouble.
Dodgers have a good infield defense, but a poor outfield defense (unless Gwynn plays a lot of center with Kemp in right and Ethier in left).
Don't like this signing. Too many years for a non-elite pitcher

$250,000 for each of 40 and 50 relief appearances
$500,000 for each of 60, 70, and 80 relief appearances (there have been five Dodgers to pitch 80 games since 2000)
$750,000 for each of 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, and 55 games finished
$150,000 for each of 35 and 45 games in "which he enters games with the Dodgers leading by three or fewer runs" (this is by far my favorite Dodger performance bonus to date)
Starting Incentives
$1 million for 12 starts and 70 innings pitched as a starter*
$1 million for each of 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, and 33 starts
He's likely to earn a lot more than the $2 million
