I'm a Phillies fan, and while we've had a lot of lean years, we've had some good ones as well, especially right now. I voted for the Cubs, but I think it might be a tie with Cleveland.
Possibly because Pirate fans didn't have much in the way of expectations right from the start. That's not nearly as bad as a team that shows some promise then doesn't live up to it.
I totally disagree with the Pirates because you always know what you're getting and there hasn't been a glimmer of hope for years. Honestly i'd say the Orioles and the Mets. The Orioles are in the toughest division in baseball and are trying to follow the lead of teams like Minnesota and Tampa but the hill has been too steep for them so far. I do wish them luck. The Mets I would say too because they do okay in the draft and are willing to spend but always seem to have HORRIBLE chemistry during the course of the year, always injury plagued, and never can close out a year with winning consistently.
*** Honorable mention to the Blue Jays. They have been building it right but would have alot more success in a different division.
If we are talking about aggregate soul crushing disappointment, teams like the Blue Jays arent even on the radar, they have to WS titles in the last 20 years. Baltimore has had some great teams, just not in recent memory. The rays, no way, too new and have had good success recently. The Pirates are also out for the same reasons as Baltimore.
Atlanta is compelling since with all their reg season success they have failed pretty hard in the post season the vast majority of the time. That has to be really frusturating as a fan. But ask any cubs fan if they would have taken that path.
Now that I think about it, I'd like to give honorable mention to the baseball fans in Montreal. They had some of the worst luck among baseball fans anywhere. Not only did they live in a hockey town--where, to be honest, major league baseball was set up to fail from the outset--but they were victimized by a front office that teased them over and over again by building teams that looked good...but never delivered. Then they lost their team altogether.

Excellent call Fred. I forgot about them. Don't forget, they were way ahead in the strike shortened season too.
