Same goes for EVERY team, since you can't buy a pennant.
Very loosely speaking, you can buy your way into the playoffs
but once there anything can happen. The gaps in talent aren't big enough, and the series aren't long enough to assure that that team with the best players will always win

The Giants played .568 ball, the Rangers .556. Applied to a seven game series, the Giants win 3.97 games, the RAngers win 3.89 games.

I doubt that very seriously. I go to 40 or 50 games each season, including game six of the World Series last year. That was the one the Yankees "bought" like they do every year in your mind. Except that they've only won that one in the last ten years.

the Yanks lost because they lacked a #2 pitcher,
did the Rangers buy there way in with the acquisition of Lee in July?

Sorry but as a Yankee fan it was obvious. We lost because our hitting wasn't there. If we hit like we did most of the year, we would have just outslugged our opponent.. A poor performance by our pitching didn't help but it was our bats that sunk us.

I predicted the Yanks would be in a 1-3 hole in this series just looking at the pitching matchups, all Texas had to do was win 1 of the 1st two and since Gerardi decided not to pitch Petite second, that became there best chance for a win, they had the best pitcher in the series going in game 3 and they faced the worst pitcher in the series in game 4 (Burnett), that was an easy call.
What the Yanks should have done is pitch Petite second and try to take the 1st two games then they could have survived dropping games 3 and 4.
But if they had one more quality pitcher a #2 starter, instead of Hughes (who may be that guy someday soon but isn't there yet) they likely wouldn't have given up all those runs in games 2 and 6.

Hughes is definitely a #2 but because they watched him so careful last year with the Joba like rules for innings, they didn't stretch him out enough (in my opinion). I too would have pitched Pettitte game 2 though. Burnett was fine but Girardi has to learn when it is time to pull a pitcher. Burnett has proven that he is a 5-6 inning guy and that's why he should be #4 in the rotation. Maybe next year at #5 if Cliff Lee joins us.

It was actually more of a joke than anything. The conclusion to the post said it was a joke before it was edited and eventually deleted. No big deal. I would not consider it a huge mistake either way. Just a moment in time that nobody will remember once it's gone, much like your Reds and their playoff run this year.

I never thought the Reds would even get this far yet. They have some young stars that played well but I never thought they would do what they did.
They played way over my expectations and were exciting to watch.
They did not have enough total talent to go any further then they did.
They need to trade for some key players and another solid pitcher and they will be ok.

I was thrilled to see some new blood at the top of that division and not the same old Cardinals.

I think its funny how people are acting like the Giants are a low-budget team.....they're in the top 10 in baseball for salary!!! And they have spent some exorbitant amounts of money on mediocre (at best) players: namely Zito and Rowand.
