Another thing to consider about Dunn is that he is a converted reliever ... he didn't give up playing a position until 2007, so he is still relatively new to pitching
As a marlins fan I hope he spends some time in AAA with the marlins pitching coach there, who is really good (Scott Mitchell) - but with the Marlins need for pen help he'll probably start the season up
The Marlins would of liked to of kep Uggla - his salary demands were just too insane (5 years $71M) ..... the marlins offered a very fair (a bit high IMO) 4 years $48M and Dan walked
They did actively shop him last year and obviously were shopping again this year.
While as a fan you would expect to get more in return, at a certain point the market it what it is .... the Blue Jays rumored package was worse, there wasn't much of a market last year and I don't think many teams want to send much for a 31 year old defensively poor 2b coming off a career year who wants a huge contract or will be a 1 year rental.
I think most teams are a little concerned about what a 36 year old Uggla would look like - especially in the NL. If he comes back a little this year the price would come down, but you don't exactly trade away pieces hoping production would drop.
It's a tough situation.
I'm not blown away by the trade or the John Buck signing. But Buck is an improvement at C where the Marlins had a huge issue, Dunn will help the bullpen which was horrible last year, Infante will improve the defense and the hope/pray is that he'll get on base enough so guys like Hanley & Stanton can power him in.
I think the organization is also hoping that Morrison continues to develop his power at this level and that Dominguez is ready to come up.
I'm definitely not excited about losing Uggla, I'm just not sure what the options were
Sabean seems determined to not repeat his past mistakes. The one year deal with Burrell is the right length, the two year deal with Huff also wise. Sabean let Uribe leave rather than overpay him...and if the Giants have to have Miguel Tejada, it is good that it is for just one year. In the past Sabean would have locked Tejada up through age 40.
Good for you Brian. I'm no longer having those nightmares where you trade Posey for Carlos Delgado.
I'd be a bit worried about:

The sudden decrease in walk rate (12% in 2010, 16% career) and increase in strike out rate (36% in 2010, 32% over the last 3 years). Dunn's swinging strike rate was the highest of his career in 2010 at 14% compared to 11.5% for his career. Those are big jumps
Players who depend on walks and power during their youth have an increased likelihood of rapid decline.
The theory is that players who rely on speed and agility can transform themselves into patient hitters who hit for power as their bodies become slower with age. Players who already possess these skills have nothing to fall back upon when their skills start to decline.
