Hey,why not pay 2 guys to do the same thing and put up similar results. Or you can ship out Lowell and pay most of his salary so you'll pay over $20 million for 3rd base.

Beltre >> Lowell. Beltre has an All-Time glove at 3B. Lowell was pretty good and is probably about average today.

If he's healthy he's going to put up some big numbers in Fenway. Safeco destroys right-handed power hitters. Fenway enhances them

Good hitters can hit anywhere.I can understand HR numbers dropping but the average did too.Defensively you're right,Beltre is better but if you are able to dump Lowell without paying more then half of this years salary then it makes sense.More then half and you're getting ripped off and could have put the money elsewhere.Maybe could have upped the offer to Bay instead of overpaying for Cameron.

When flyouts in Safeco turn into doubles in Fenway the average will go up.

OVERPAYING for Cameron? I disagree. Steal for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are done with Lowell at 3B...they don't want him playing there and don't seem to want him on the roster. They are much better off to give him away than they are to keep him instead of a more useful player.

Right on cue the 2009 ESPN Park Factors come out

Fenway: Runs-1.072, HR-.964, H-.994, 2B-1.37, 3B-1.08
Safeco: Runs-.947, HR-.886, H-.984, 2B-.911, 3B-1.09
N Yankee: Runs-.965, HR-1.261, H-.995, 2B-.810, 3B-.500 (for fun)

So...expect Beltre to hit a lot more doubles and home runs.

I think you are missing the point. You are going to be playing Beltre full time and at the same time will be paying a guy most of his salary after you trade him away(2 salaries for 1 position). So it's not about overpaying but paying prime money for 2 people at 1 spot. The Yankees as well as the Red Sox and most other teams have overpaid for people but this is just plain stupid.

There is no way that it is stupid to replace a player with a better player. Especially when you play in the AL East and one win here or there could make a huge difference
