And we saw how much a few games means in the grand scheme of things.

Unfortunately for the Sox, they are learning how it hurts when your backups can't be as competitive. My Yankees have also had a ton of injuries this year but held it together a little better.

Is there a team whose backups are as competitive as their starters?
Wakefield his 200th today as the Sox roll the Jays
This shot by Bautista was the most impressive thing, though.

I don't know their winning percentage without Jeter or Rodriguez in the lineup, but I know that it is impressive.

I agree. As long as the reserves can play "decent" baseball and keep the team winning, that's all that matters. Sometimes the Yankees are criticized for alot but the team was put together in a smart way. Behind the plate we have 2 rising stars that are finally getting to show their potential (Montero, Romine) , we have guys like Nunez who can play a few infield positions, Swisher who can play outfield or 1B,Chavez who was a cheap fill in, and lots of young talent that we never get credit for. Our team did have some luck too with Colon, and Garcia as well.

The Yankees can definitely survive without Jeter in the lineup because he is their worst starting player.
PLAYER PA WAR WAR/600PA
A-Rod 390 4.2 6.5
Granderson 640 6.8 6.4
Gardner 544 4.9 5.4
Cano 624 5.4 5.2
Swisher 585 4.2 4.3
Martin 441 2.9 3.9
Teix 638 4.1 3.9
Jeter 560 2.0 2.1
The team is 69 - 50 with Jeter in the lineup. That's a .580 winning %
The team is 21 - 7 with Jeter out of the lineup. That's a .750 winning %.
So much for 'Capitan Clutch's clutchiness eh
*No, I'm not suggesting the team is better with Nunez instead of Jeter.
Nunez has been worth -0.8 WAR in his 302 PA's, or -1.6 per 600 PA's
The team is 52 - 38 with A-Rod in the lineup. That's a .578 winning %
The team is 38 - 19 with A-Rod out of the lineup. That's a .667 winning %
Proof positive that A-Rod isn't a 'True Yankee'.
*No I don't believe that either.

The pickup of Russell Martin was another excellent move. I'm surprised that the Dodgers, an organization that seems to be going nowhere, gave up on him.
