Sounds like it might be a done deal

Theo Epstein on verge of taking job with Chicago Cubs, sources say - ESPN

Good for the Cubs, this can't be a bad thing. Personally I think he will just be another name on the endless list to fail with the cubs, but at least they are trying.

Wasn't Hendry considered a hotshot GM? Maybe it was it the guy before him? What was his name?

I just heard this on the radio just a bit ago. It's a 5 year contract.

I don't see him as a savior. Frankly, as many of his moves didn't pan out as worked.

Good team generally built through the draft, with a very high payroll from market signings.

Not exactly an odd storyline here.

Reinsdork must be pissed. He picked Ventura to disguise the fact his team has nothing for next year. Ricketts one-upped him with Epstein. Epstein may give the coaching job to Sandberg. If so, attendance in 2012: Cubs, 3M; Pale Hose, 1.5M. Love it.

lol, you guys always win the attendance war. It's weirdly a source of pride of your fans, that you get more dumb, drunk people in the park that we do.

Enjoy your trophy you don't get for that

He's a good GM, but not great. He could never build a bullpen & his free agent signings, well, not great. He really took his eye off the ball the last 3 or 4 years. stll, he will help the Cubs for sure.

wait - you mean the cubs went out and overpayed for a good, but not great talent to satisfy their fans with hype more than production?!

amazing - i've never heard that story with them before
