Marlins land slugger Carlos Lee from Astros | MLB.com: News
Carlos Lee acquired by the Miami Marlins.

Lee had a limited no-trade clause and could block trades to 14 teams. The Dodgers were one of those teams, the Marlins were not.

Quote:
the Astros are paying all of the remaining nearly $9 million owed to Lee, except for the pro-rated $480,000 minimum salary.

To acquire an impact bat now, the Marlins decided to part with two prospects.

A third baseman out of Chatsworth High School near Los Angeles, Dominguez is regarded as a standout defensive player who has had his struggles at the plate. In 78 games with Triple-A New Orleans, the 23-year-old batted .234 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs.

Rasmussen, a 23-year-old lefty, was 4-7 with a 3.90 ERA in 16 starts at Class A Jupiter. He was recently promoted to Double-A. The Marlins selected Rasmussen in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA.
Neither player that the Astros received looks like too much. Dominguez is questionable as a major league players. His defense looks to be gold glove level. His offense looks to be AAA level or worse. Rasmussen is 23 and playing in A ball.

Yeah - the Marlins didn't give up much

Dominguez just can't hit

His defense is as advertised and some thought that alone would be his ticket up, he just can't get enough out of his bat though

Going into spring training last season the marlins really wanted him to win the job and it didn't work out - he did nothing to give himself a shot this year either

He has spent the last two falls in the Arizona Fall League and is starting to become a permanent fixture in AAA with the requisite September call up

Seems like a good kid and I hope him the best, but he's definitely stalled out offensively and it's far short of MLB level

Also drew another walk.

Youk's homer is the difference in the game at the moment....Sox have eight hits and two walks to the Rangers' two hits and one walk....but lead by just 2-1.

St. Louis Cardinals' John Mozeliak could make major move come trade deadline - MLB News | FOX Sports on MSN
Quote:
The difference in state income taxes was an issue for Carlos Lee when he balked at a proposed trade from the Astros to the Dodgers, according to a major league source.
Texas does not tax personal income, while California’s rate is one of the highest in the nation.
