The fact that he claims the handling of the sample wasn't up to the protocol screams GUILTY. If you have to blame the guy that took the sample and accuse him of potential tampering, you were just looking for a reason to be exonerated. Sorry Braun but you're guilty and you got lucky in this case. Now lets see if his numbers are the same or comparable for this year.

His numbers have been the same from College all the way up to now meanwhile passing 25 drug tests along the way. Prince is no longer behind him let's see how that affects him.

I agree that he doesn't have the same protection in the order but you also have to realize that new designer synthetic drugs come out every day and the testing doesn't always account for these. Even if they pitch around him, that shouldn't affect his average, but it will for his walk total and RBI's and potentially HR's. Keep the average close and i'll change my tune.

if you go to the bar 25 time after work and have a few too many and drive drunk home but on the 26th time you do the same but are caught by the cops are you not a drunk driver?

bonds and mcguire passed tests as well

Unfortunately based on the widespread use of many during the 80's and 90's, McGuire and Bonds were assumed to be guilty right away. It didn't help that Bonds transformed from an average shape guy to a guy with a big/cut body. Not many can transform into that without help.

bonds used roids, Bruan used synthetic testosterone, one gets you big muscles, the other can help elevate energy, mood, drive and help you recover from injuries much quicker.

hence why braun looks the way he does but is still a cheater.

Call it what you want, but they are referred to as PED's, also known as performance enhancing drugs. That makes all variations of them illegal.

This is what most people think. However, the process IS what validates the test. One might say "what's the big deal if it sat for a few days in a fridge before it got to the testing facility?"

It makes a huge difference. Part of the test for HGH/PEDs is to compare natural to synthetic testosterone. Natural may break down over time upon leaving the body whereas synthetic won't (or it will do so slower). So, when they look at the ratios... what could have been an acceptable level could have become a failing test.

He'll probably regress towards the mean. There have been many cases of "flash in the pan" players over the history of baseball, even before the known steroid era. In the court of public opinion, if he doesn't put up MVP numbers, it'll just be further proof that he doped.

And that's ignorant.

It will not constitute proof unless all other variables could be eliminated, which they cannot in any scientific way. However, a poor performance by Braun would constitute evidence for sustaining suspicion, and that isn't ignorance for it would be based on the manifest pattern we have been seeing for several years. Offensive levels rose in the age of 'roids and have been dropping ever since MLB finally cracked down on the PEDS, certainly not a coincidence.

If Braun falls into that pattern, he will at least be giving off the odor of someone whose past feats were enhanced.

Braun had a career year in '11 and it would not be a surprise to see a decline in '12, but if he goes from MVP to chump at the plate, that will be something else.
