You won't believe the finish in Houston tonight: The Astros come out the victors in the ninth inning with Texas' Josh Hamilton hitting into a 3-6-1 double play (Elvis Andrus was caught in a lengthy rundown and tagged on the heel). Astros win, 6-5. The atmosphere at Minute Maid was absolutely electric tonight.

Max Scherzer, sufferer of heterochomia iridum, struck out 15 Pirates. All of them swinging.

Dude is nasty

The Yankees got a well pitched game last night. That makes one in a row.

Fun teammate, a joy in the clubhouse too from past stuff I've read.

Anyhow, the Indians got another win from Ubaldo Jimenez yesterday, but he again walked more than he struck out.

So far he and Derek Lowe have been interesting, a combined record of 11-5 with 56 walks and only 45 strikeouts.

J.D. Martinez finally had a difference-making game (he had been mired in a bad slump after a great April). And he needed a game like the one last night. He had what was the game-winning hit last night in Houston's win over the Chicago Cubs.

Hopefully, Wandy Rodriguez will put the finishing touches on what I hope will be a sweep in the series.

Default Broom Time

The Astros got their brooms out last night and took care of business against the Cubs, and now they head to L.A. for a weekend series. What they need to do now is improve their season road record.

Indians sweep the Tigers, beat Verlander today. So far, so good for the Tribe. Hope they can keep surprising some people.
