Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion with a couple more hits, including a double.

Seems like he is trying to copy Jose Bautista's late career breakout performance of a couple of years ago.

Not nearly as dramatically.

BAUTISTA

You can see that Joey Bats had huge increases in his OBP and SLG. He made himself into a completely different hitter.

ENCARNACION

Encarnacion's gains have been solely in the power department.

Looks like Encarnacion is just swinging harder. His contact % has dropped from what it had been the previous couple of years. He's hitting more flyballs at the expense of line drives (not necessarily a good trade off). His home runs/fly ball has increased but HR/FB is quite variable. As you can see by looking at Encarnacion's historical rates (from 9% to double that).

Well, the Astros have begun their road trip in grand fashion, having recovered from their worst loss of the year to beat the White Sox in Chicago, 8-3, with three home runs. When these guys look good, they look good.

Now, we'll see if they can keep it going. They need to start winning more on the road.

Giants Ryan Vogelsong with his 10th Quality Start in 11 outings this season, getting to at least the 7th inning every start. Giants are 8-3 when Vogelsong starts.

Not bad for a guy who spent three seasons in Japan (2007-2009) and then bounced around the minors in 2010.

Astros looking good today, folks. Their offense came bouncing back in ChiTown this afternoon, lighting up the board with 11 runs today. Four Houston players hit homers.
